DOES THE CAPITALIST MANTRA OF "THERE IS NO ALTERNATIVE" STILL APPLY?
In the midst of the lastest crisis of capitalism, and the continued unsustainable and hugely unjust nature of the capitalist world system, what is to be done? There have been no strong calls for a socialist alternative from the mainstream media, which is not surprising. The zombie-like mantra remains, "there is no alternative". However, contrary to the blinkered views of the media, business and political elites, there IS an alternative - participatory economics - http://www.myspace.com/parecon -. This is a system based on workers councils and consumption councils, workplace democracy, remuneration based on effort and sacrifice and balanced job complexes, necessitating a democratization of civil society, the social and economic spheres, through the apparatus of the state. Any takers?!
Does the capitalist mantra of "there is no alternative" still apply?
No, because... A better question is
In a free press system, you have to expect the media to speak out against EVERYTHING. Absolutely everything.
did it *ever* apply?
I don't think we could expect the corporate media to give voice to calls for a socialist alternative - would it really be in Murdoch's interests?
Point 1. A better question is
