SHOULD FACEBOOK BRING BACK THE OLD FORMAT?
The old Facebook format was great, the new one is just a mess. The old adage is true – if it ain't broke, why fix it?
Should Facebook bring back the old format?
Yes, because... Poor organization creates confusion
Everyone knew and understood the old facebook format. It was easy to use, loaded quickly and had become familiar to its millions of users. Now these users all have to re-adjust, a process which has created great outcry and mass confusion.
There are many millions of Facebook users against the new design, surely this should mean something? I can see people leaving to find a more USER FRIENDLY social networking website, me being one of them!
Not only does Facebook take forever to load now, I find continuous errors occurring!
What happened to all my personalised banners? It took me months to get my profile looking exactly how I liked it, now it looks horrible!!!
The "separation" of wall and mini-feed doesn't really work, because they've redefined the "wall" to include the minifeed; "posts by others" includes, for instance, comments on photos and notes and photos others tagged you in.
Familar, yes.
Easy to use? Loaded quickly? No and no.
The new format is more organized with the positions of the menu and tool bars. The tabs on profile pages allows users to find info easily instead of having to search a huge page for a section. I admit, the feed and wall posts should be seperated, but other than that, the organization is far superior.
The Applications, Notifications, and Chat menus need not load with every page, which means faster page loading. I'm sure there will be more adjustments made to this to make it even better.
** You CAN seperate the wall and mini feed, all you have to do is click "Posts By Me" or "Posts by others" and it separates it out in an INSTANT. In fact you can filter everything now, on the homepage also which makes it MUCH more organized and easy to retrieve the information you want, or just browse.
Seriously people, it's not the end of the world. Give it a chance.

Should Facebook bring back the old format?
Yes, because... People are leaving in protest
People on Facebook are talking of a mass move to other social networking sites such as MySpace or Bebo as they are so annoyed at the changes. Facebook should revert back to the old format to avoid this happening and to avoid having them lose revenue.
Users who have migrated from MySpace or Bebo to escape the spam are left between a rock and a hard place. Some may return to MySpace or Bebo, while many may join another social network that resembles the old Facebook but has no spam or less spam than MySpace and Bebo. Most, however, may distance themselves from social networks altogether or begrudgingly use Facebook less frequently until something better is developed by someone else, or Facebook's design team either reverts back to the old format or redesigns the new Facebook to accommodate those who love the old design (along with its many strengths).
According to over 2.5 million users who have been FORCED to use the new Facebook, the new design is NOT better but it's WORSE! In contrast, there's only a few thousand who seem to like the new Facebook. If this were a democracy, the old Facebook design would win by a landslide vote and the new Facebook design would have to rethink it's platform to gain the appreciation (and votes) of the people.
MySpace and Bebo are FULL of spam. I have not received a single spam message or friend request since joining. If a spam-free social network pops up, then you may have a case; otherwise, Facebook will continue to dominate the online social network arena. People moved FROM myspace and bebo TO facebook.. Why move back just because a new BETTER design came up? As a guy further up the page said, give it a chance and you will like it!

Should Facebook bring back the old format?
Yes, because... It is a messy confusion
The layout of the new Facebook is considerable messier and less well thought out that the previous layout. For example the wall looks messy as the posts are not together.
The Wall is the ONLY part of Facebook which is messy. They are attempting to encourage more commenting and posting by allowing comments on News Feed items. This means they need to fall onto The Wall, so that people don't comment on a person's Wall and the News feed item.
You can edit your setting to allow what gets posted on your Wall and what doesn't. Take in active role in making your Facebook better.
I just noticed another option to SORT your Wall Posts. Right above The Wall is the Wall Filters (next to the settings link). If you click "Posts by Others", then you only see Wall Posts posted by other people.

Should Facebook bring back the old format?
Yes, because... Yes they do need to go back & revamp their new idea
Folks need to stop telling people that they just need to learn how to use it or to re-adjust. It could have been great but instead it’s all wrong. It’s not about comfort. The only people who like it so far seem to be the people who never used the applications. And yes it was a mission from time to time to load a page when someone had tons of applications but come on… this didn’t solve that problem. We know how to use it and don’t like it. It’s not about getting used to it. It IS far more cluttered and all over the place. And some of the tabs do take FOREVER to load. All they needed to update it was maybe one tab for the extra applications on everyone’s page. Leave the home page as it was and cap off the amount of applications allowed on the profile page. That’s it. People need to stop treating others like idiots for having a preference. There is a reason we were all addicted…
Did you ever give it a chance? I am just as comfortable with the new facebook as I was with the old one... just give it a chance for crying out loud.
I used apps and find the new facebook much easier to use - i can find the apps more easily! It is not cluttered as everything is organised and in the same place on everyones profiles - therefore much easier to navigate a page.
There is nothing different about the content of facebook, everything is just mor organised. So saying that you will leave or aren't addicted anymore is over the top - its the same.

Yes, because... Newly added photos make a mess on the profile page

Should Facebook bring back the old format?
Yes, because... The Change was not necessary
Most users of Facebook took a small amount of time to figure out the simple design of the website, and it just worked. While many new users are signing up every day and utilizing the new site as is, the old users must now break their old comfort zone and get with the new Facebook. Figuring out how to use a site again is rather irritating, especially when you just would like to do a quick skim of your updates and check up with your friends and colleagues. This change adds a new step to the veterans and complicates our already complicated lives.

Should Facebook bring back the old format?
Yes, because... No one pissed their pants when Myspace or Bebo changed
Seriously, Myspace and Bebo both went through major redesigns so they would be easier to use, and nicer to look at. Now Facebook has done the same and all of their "die-hard" users are getting their knickers in a twist because it looks slightly different. It works fine! If all the teeny-boppers over at Bebo can get used to a change, then so can you.

Yes, because... Is the Old Facebook Better? Nope.
I wrestled with changes to Facebook, and wrote an article about it: http://bit.ly/9GM8bD I'm glad I have dealt with this irrational fear of change. The new design seems pretty intuitive.
Should Facebook bring back the old format?
No, because... Adjusting takes time
There are a lot more people who dislike the new Facebook than just the people who don't like change in any form. Maybe adjusting does take time, but people won't want to adjust to something bad.
There are always people who don't like change in any form, but the majority grow accustomed to it after a while. Facebook would be foolish to do anything yet and needs to wait for a cooling off period before taking such a decision.

Should Facebook bring back the old format?
No, because... The users are not the 'customers'
The users may not directly be the customers but it is their traffic that persuades companies to buy advertising space in the first place. If the users all left then no-one would buy advertising and the site would struggle to get any funding.
^^^ To further this point, the users create the customers. The world of advertising on websites goes like this: Companies pay the website X amount of dollar to have their advertisement on the webpage. The website can only put up so many advertisements. The more popular the website is the more companies that want their advertisement on (Naturally if you have a company and paying money for advertising you'd prefer your advertisement to be seen by 100 people rather than 5). This creates a high demand for advertisements on websites with high traffic such as ebay, Facebook, Amazon, Twitter ect. So the higher the demand the higher the cost. That means that for a high traffic site, like facebook, their income equation looks like this:
Income = Advertisement Size + Advertisement Occurrence + Demand
Demand = Advertisment Seekers + Site Traffic
The users, although important, are not directly funding the site. Money is made from advertising. If those paying for the site’s services like the new look then it should stay.

Should Facebook bring back the old format?
No, because... Facebook is back to its old "standardised" look, whilst still maintaining some of the "fun" features such as video
Facebook is multi-generational; the age of users range anywhere between children to great-grandparents. The old format allowed people from all ages to set up their profile to fit their interests, as they saw fit. Boxes that seemed most significant to them could be elevated to the top of the page, boxes that seemed insignificant to others could be closed. In the new format, the clutter of having too many applications remains under those tabs, but the option to close the boxes has been taken away. Boxes which were significant enough for users to place on the top of their profile have been inconveniently moved to a different tab and cannot be moved to the main profile tab. As mentioned elsewhere, the size of the photos slows down loading times, looks messy, and the user has no control over which photos are displayed on the photos section. Although the idea of tabs is useful, the inability to move boxes from one tab to another makes them more burdensome than useful.
Facebook was once a sophisticated, "grown-up"-looking site with text and some photos of people should you choose to look at them. When "applications" were introduced, it became messy and less convenient, demonstrating that people are inept at organising themselves. Now, all the applications have been put on a separate page, and those who don’t like them never have to look at them.

Should Facebook bring back the old format?
No, because... The new format enables lower loading times
When looking at a profile in the old format, users could collapse items they did not want to see. Thus, loading times could easily be reduced and users had a real choice of what they did and did not want to look at. In the new format, the option to collapse items has been removed and the tabs that contain an abundance of applications take even longer to load than before!
When you click profile now it takes less time to load because it's divided into tabs, thus giving the user a choice on what to look at.

Should Facebook bring back the old format?
No, because... Profiles are cleaner and more organised
Any unwanted applications on the old facebook could be blocked and/or minimized. Anybody who complains about the loading times needs a new computer.
The apps are in their rightful place - out of sight and more organised. You don't have to scroll through a million funwalls to find the real wall, or something else as important.
