IPHONE - THE MUST HAVE "GADGET", REALLY?

Cutting edge, sleek and promising, the iPhone stirred the mobile world - not bad for Apple's first go at the mobile phones market. Inspiring and provocative, the iPhone will always come to mind when a handset with full touch-based user interface is in question. Do you really think that Apple iPhone is the most innovative phone build until now and peoples who like "glamorous" gadgets should buy it?

iPhone - the must have "gadget", really?

Yes, because... Stylish design

The iPhone design it's really neat.

I don't see what is so nice at the Iphone style, I like better the Samsung Omnia.

iPhone - the must have "gadget", really?

Yes, because... Scratch-proof front glass cover

The front panel glass really doesn't scratch, that's a good thing. ;)

I won't buy something because its "scratch-proof". Its like saying that a Bugatti Veyron is a must have car because it goes over 250 MPH. Its nice, but it doesn't make it a car everyone MUST have.

iPhone - the must have "gadget", really?

Yes, because... Great UI graphics and animations

Apple did a good job integrating OS X into iPhone iPod Touch). The animations are really impressive.

Yet no different than competing androids

iPhone - the must have "gadget", really?

Yes, because... Touch-based user interface

You can switch to next photo with your finger or you can skip to the next music in the same way, there's only 1 button.

Lots of phones do this...

one button isnt really a good thing. They waste a whole "bar space" at the bottom for one button? Its not like its confusing to look at an android and know that the left arrow is the back button, the house is the home button, the "menu" is the menu button and the magnifying glass is the search button. Takes up the same "bar" space from the bottom of the screen but androids utilize the space better, leaving the rest of the screen for a more simple use.

<<< A co-worker of mine came up to me the other day with her iphone that shes had for over a year and couldn't figure out how to back out of a video. If she had an android it would be a simple push of the back button. Ease of use... +1 for android

iPhone - the must have "gadget", really?

Yes, because... Handset orientation sensor and proximity sensor

When you lift iPhone to your ear, the proximity sensor immediately turns off the display to save power and prevent inadvertent touches until iPhone is moved away. Another power-saving feature is the ambient light sensor. This intelligent sensor automatically adjusts the display’s brightness to the appropriate level for the current ambient light.

That proximity sensor it's not very useful how they say, it will not save too much turning off the screen.

^ But in addition to that, i'd like to add that competing android phones such as the HTC Evo and the Samsung Epic also have the SAME EXACT FEATURES! In fact, there are cell phones that ARE NOT smart phones with the auto adjust brightness displays. It really isn't an impressive feature...

iPhone - the must have "gadget", really?

Yes, because... It's an iPod too

iPhone is a widescreen iPod with touch controls that lets you enjoy your content including music, audiobooks, videos, TV shows, and movies. It allows you to sync the content from the iTunes library on your PC or Mac and access it all with the touch of a finger.

Not easily from your PC. Apple make software which is incompatible with PC software so we all buy Macs.

Not to mention, Google has its own syncing for their android phones which is more compatible with PC (which is a much more common device than the mac, like android to ios).

iPhone - the must have "gadget", really?

No, because... 2 megapixel camera

The device was never meant to replce a point and shoot camera and beside the quality of the camera is more than adequate for what it was designed for: quick snapshots and for taking pictures for your contacts list.

Update: The new iPhone 4 has 5 megapixel camera and it shoots HD video in 30fps.

In the current version the camera is very poor, Nokia alread released in march 2007 the N95 with 5 Megapixels camera. Hope Apple will improve the camera in the new iPhone version (3G).

The new Sony Ericsson C905 will have 8 Megapixels camera, so 2 Mpx it's very poor for a mobile phone camera in 2008.

iPhone - the must have "gadget", really?

No, because... No video recording

I can record movies I just jalibroke my iphone which is 30 minute process. You then install Cydia which allows you to install non-Apple approved products and away you go download Psycorder and you have video recording on the iPhone. the only reason it doesn't come as standard is because Apple has put it as alower priority in the development cycle. It's interesting to note that although I have to do this right now Apple has said to third party developers in its own app store not to go after the "low-hanging fruit". What it means by this is that there will be capability for all the the things other phones can do but only when Apple can make damn sure that its own software is nothing less than perfect... until then you have to get downright geeky and risk turning your phone into a brick by jail-breaking it to install the aforementioned app(s).

Well .. i have a camera, but i can't record movies .. woot

iPhone - the must have "gadget", really?

No, because... Safari browser doesn't support Flash and Java

From what i was understood, the new software (iPhone 2.0) will allow flash and windows media player (I'm not sure).

Now, almost all good webpages contain flash (or at least they have flash banners), it's really bad that iPhone doesn't have flash player.

iPhone - the must have "gadget", really?

No, because... Really basic Bluetooth capabilities

Apple is against piracy, so if they were allow file transfer between phones they would contribute at distributing the music (at least that's what they try to say).

You can't send a file to other phone or recive something from other phone. The BlueTooth is only for wilress headphones etc.

iPhone - the must have "gadget", really?

No, because... No Office documents editor

Read the point about the camera above - you can jail-break your iPhone and install non Apple approved products which can do what you want.

You can't copy from your computer/Mac Word/Excel/Powerpoint documents on the iPhone. You can only read documents only if you have them in your e-mail inbox (without downloading them on the iPhone).

iPhone - the must have "gadget", really?

No, because... No third party applications

The SDK will be released sometime in July. But however, Apple put developers to pay to develop applications.

Also jail breaking your phone, which DOES NOT invalidate your warranty unless you unlock it, allows you to install a ridiculous amount of third party apps and games adding functionality to your phone that Apple has not released as yet.

Currently you can't install applications on the iPhone without jailbreaking it, But Apple will release soon the sdk.

iPhone - the must have "gadget", really?

No, because... iPhone 3G

Front facing conference cameras are fancy extras Not very many people utilize MMS, too expensive no "real" bluetooth: who cares, its a phone. and also apple isnt pirate friendly

But it still is a:

Phone

iPod

Full on Internet browser

Email device

Gaming Platform

GPS (in a few aspects)

well rounded device

all in all it is better than any other phone. go buy one. now.

All peoples were excited about the new iPhone 3G, but Apple preferred not to improve too much the phone, they've just added GPS and 3G. No front-facing conference camera, no MMS, no "real" bluetooth.

as compared to Androids:

phone

mp3 player

faster internet browser through 4G

faste email service through 4G

gaming platform with faster game downloads through 4G

GPS

Calculater

Camera/ Camcorder

Flashlight (most popular Androids)

Ereader (most androids use kindle ereaders)

Most androids come equipped with microsoft office

all in all the specs speak for itself, iphone isnt worth it

iPhone - the must have "gadget", really?

The G1 has the potential to do anything the iPhone can do because it is built on user generated content. It's the best phone at the moment for going online in terms of browser capability. Eventually all phones will become obsolete and so should be judged on their capability to evolve, the G1 fully updateable in terms of software and the possiblities for it are endless because anyone can put together an app for it! Thats why it gets my vote over the iPhone.

iPhone - the must have "gadget", really?

No, because... major inconvinience

1) The iphone is still on 4G. Though it can stream movies, download music and games and surf the wab, the speed that it can do this at while away from Wifi does not compare to the speed that any 4G phone can perform the same task.

2) Jail breaking is required to do half the things an android can on an iphone. Talk about a paper weight

3) Ran out of space? Go buy a whole new phone because Iphones do not have removable storage. The only way to increase the space is by purchasing a whole new phone even more expensive than the on you already have. This is compared to spending $9 for a micro SD card to give you 16gb extra than what your phone already holds on any non-iphone smart phone.

So lets look at it this way: iPhone - other phones Slow internet speeds through old technology of a 3g network. - fast internet speeds through 4g network. Jail breaking required to do some actions - same actions come stock Whole new phone needed to increase storage space - cheap small micro sd card needed to greatly increase storage space

and before anyone goes and counter argues with cloud, Android has a cloud too, which means your argument is invalid.

iPhone - the must have "gadget", really?

No, because... Its only a "face"

Its a "cool looking" gadget sold as "the latest technology". People need to do their research on Apple because honestly all Apple has ever done is take things OTHER COMPANIES had been working on and released YEARS prior to Apples release and through a user-friendly ios onto it and say its technology, but then realize they forgot a lot of things that have been part of modern technology for the last 5-10 years and re-release the same item a half a year later. Is this really the "must have device"?

Furthermore, theres nothing an iphone can do more efficiently than an android. For iphones to even compete with androids they need to be jailbroken. Does that make sense? And still the iphone CAN NOT multi-task. Some technology....
