ARE BRITONS BECOMING LAZY?
Britain is suffering an epidemic of laziness. The government is unable to tackle obesity and we spend longer and longer in front of the TV. However is this not how things were supposed to be, as we get richer there is less reason for us to work continuously, indeed in the 1930’s the economist John Maynard Keynes predicted we would be working a 15 hour week by 2030, so what’s wrong with a little laziness?
Are Britons becoming lazy?
Yes, because... Benefits
People are not working as much any more, and although there are not enough jobs at the moment, there are still a lot of people choosing to live off the government through benefits. These people show that Britain is a lazy country, they claim jobseekers allowance yet they do not take up the jobs that are available that anyone is able to do. This laziness is then blamed on the recession and the lack of jobs yet it is the lack of motivation that these people have that really determines the state of laziness in Britain.
JSA has a mandatory requirement to actually look for work, usually a certain number of searches/applications per week. It is forbidden to turn down a job while on JSA except for a very good reason (eg. not realising beforehand that the job is unsuitable due to bad advertising).
It is not the case that people can 'do any old job' if they are disabled or otherwise unfit for the majority of work offered through the Job Centre. These people often get stigmatised as scroungers when they are not.

Are Britons becoming lazy?
Yes, because... Children
Obesity is constantly increasing and this is particularly noticable in children. Television and technology is partly to blame for this. Where in the earlier part of the 20th century children would go and play out after school they are now staying in to watch TV or play video games. They may invite their friends round to their house, meaning that just because Britons are lazy does not mean that they are not sociable, to play games or watch a film or TV.
It is then distilled into a child's brain early on that laziness happens after working. School provides the challenge and after school is a time to relax. yet they spend all day at school sitting down with a lot of schools having one hour a week to have physical education, sometimes a few more hours, but still not being active in class. This is where children become lazy and obesity is on the incline. Children become used to a routine of school and then home, home where they are consumed by the TV and consume all of the snacks that they can.
Obesity can result from a stressful lifestyle(liver and belly fat) and a bad diet(Of junk food, toffees, chocolates, a range of English deserts, tea/coffee with sugar, frequently(though recent studies show that a cuppa(cup of tea) helps in regulating sugar) and carbonated sugar-colas)
Children eat a lot of junk food, that does imply that they are lazy. Working in front of a personal computer screen, instead of walking to the library, is still 'WORK'(though it may require less physical agility/exercise)
It is not 'lazy' to accomplish/indulge-in mental work just not conducive to muscle building/physical-health.

Are Britons becoming lazy?
No, because... Techonology
Technology does not mean you 'have-to' do less work.
It means you do not 'need' to walk/jog/stand-in-queues/run-around as much while doing mental work with greater time efficiency but lower energy-efficiency.
Britons(like Americans) are statistically getting a lot fatter/obese than most other people around the world, who have healthier diets and less efficient bureaucratic processes that require a lot of running around.
A sub-culture of boozing lower classes, living off the government and not bothering to learn or work at anything is reasonably decadent and freight of indulgent indolence.
People are not becoming lazier, technology is developing further. Technology means that we, as humans, have to do less. The ultimate commodity in the British home is that which allows us to do nothing. The television means that people can sit around for hours on end and be continuously entertained without having to go outside and be active.
It is not that Britons are becoming more lazy it is that the world is. Technology is allowing us to be lazy and it is technology's development that will lead us into a state of laziness and obesity.

Are Britons becoming lazy?
No, because... We work long hours
Are Britons getting lazy relative to ourselves/themselves is the question?
The answer is: Yes, Britons have a greater dependency on technology, love the American-induced celebration of fat(Hey big girl, you are beautiful-Mica, 'real women have curves' etc) ignoring common health concerns over obesity, therefore not exercising, not releasing Endorphines, therefore stressing and then lazing around(getting depressed over the rain, not wanting to work or get out of the house(It's always raining anyway).
despite the "naked-chef's" wonderful cafeteria diet-change all over Britain, kids are still getting fat and whiny: why goto a friend's house, when you can talk to her/him on your i-phone?
Yes, the entire world is getting lazier, but Britons not being excluded/separate from this lazier world are no exception.
If we look across most European countries, the hours in a year Britain works is considerably higher[1]. We are ahead of France, Germany and Denmark, and despite us working harder, we do have higher levels of obesity. But perhaps our obesity is due to working so many hours as opposed to not working at all. If we are working long hours, then we want convenient food that we can grab and eat with our hands – fast food. Whilst if we worked less hours, we would be more inclined to cook from scratch a healthy meal. ? ? ? ? ? Longer hours, we work shorter hours in Britain. Up to the mid 60s the normal week was 5 and half days per week at 42 hrs. What is it now ? 38.
